Sutures Of The Skull. Sutures are formed during embryonic development. The bones are bound together by sharpey’s fibers, a matrix of connective tissue which provide a firm joint.

Sutures are formed during embryonic development. The first suture we’re going to take a look at is the coronal suture, and this is located at the front of the skull. Each frontal bone plate meets with a parietal bone plate at the coronal suture.

The lambdoid suture is made up of dense, fibrous connective tissue. A small amount of movement is permitted through these sutures that contributes to the compliance and elasticity of the skull. It is comprised of many bones, which are formed by intramembranous ossification, and joined by sutures (fibrous joints). The facial bones include 14 bones, with six paired.
